Hello Fellow Geeks! [18 Nov 2009|08:42pm]

atan_varne
I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I have just joined this community and wanted to make myself known. I am a huge fan of Tolkien, and was so excited to find a community on LJ that actually seemed to have regular postings that weren't just about Tengwar translations for tattoos!

I can't wait to meet all of you!

Lord of the Rings Artist Trading Cards [12 Apr 2008|10:50am]

tragicmouse
Hey everyone, I'm trying to make some money for my wedding and thought hardcore fans might be interested in taking these one-of-a-kind art pieces off my hands. I'm selling more of my Lord of the Rings Masterpieces Hand Drawn trading cards. These are totally drawn by hand DIRECTLY on the card by various comic book artists: THERE IS ONLY ONE OF EACH CARD IN EXISTENCE!

click on each photo for more info:

These chase cards are in perfect condition...out of the pack and into a protective sleeve.
I'll likely be selling more of my collection because I'm getting married in August!
My fiance and I hate the idea of selling them, but hopefully they'll find good homes!
♥♥
Thanks so much!

OT: the Project Fiver Petition [03 Apr 2008|08:46pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

I'm passing this on to all Tolkien fans, esp. those who attend Dragoncon in Atlanta and know Melissa. But even if you don't, won't you please consider signing the petition? It would mean a lot to her and her husband Chris.

*************************************************************************

Greetings, it's Chris Kern (aka Bill the Pony)

As most of you know, Melissa "Fiver" Kern has been diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. In September, she marched with fellow Lord of the Rings fans in the annual DragonCon parade, but six months later, she needs help walking, dressing and using stairs.

I wanted to do something for Melissa, to show her the impact that she's had on people, in the Lord of the Rings communities and beyond. To that end, I have put together a petition online. I call it "Project FIVER" (after her name on the community websites), and it is a petition to have New Line cast her as a Hobbit extra in THE HOBBIT. We don't know the course her disease will take, so she worries that she won't be around to see the movies in theaters, so this was the next best thing.

If you wouldn't mind, please sign the petition. Feel free to share the link with others.

Thanks for being a good friend to her.

-Chris

Mae govannen!

Just to say hi, I just found this community and joined. I'm also Galenfea on councilofelrond.com

While I'm here I'd just like to do a plug for a project that I started up in the realm of Varda, but which hasn't attracted as much interest as I'd hoped. It's an attempt to write a more book-purist friendly version of the movies: here . *Hearkens to the cries of "Blasphemy!"*

Anyway, I think that's all I want to say for now.
Thanks!

New Here [22 Dec 2006|11:15am]
jebea
Hey there,

I'm new here but not new to Lord of the Rings.

Just this week I've decided to start up something that I did once for a friend a couple of years ago. I've had an overwhelming urge to write something this week and of course, as usual, I fell back to Lord of the Rings.

I once wrote a piece called "A Week With Pippin" and it followed an actual week in my life as though Pippin was there with me. Which you can see here.

Now I'm wanting to do it again.

I'd appreciate it if you could check out the Pippin entry and perhaps give me some suggestions for who you might like to see spend the week with me starting this Sunday.

Toodles.

(P.S. sorry if you see a similar message on other communities)

"O Holy Night" - Quenya [30 Nov 2006|09:51pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

I was bored, and it has been a long time since I did a lengthy translation of anything, especially in Quenya. So in honor of the holidays, I picked "O Holy Night," since I figured it would be the easiest to translate. It took me about a week, which is the average length of time to do one. If any expert Quenya speakers could critique this, it would be a great help, because I'm sure I messed something up. :)

The second and third verses are taken from two different versions of the song.

Ai Ló Airë!Collapse )

So, how did I do?

I thought that you might enjoy learning about this new community.tolkiens_realm is the central community to a group of communities based on love for Middle-Earth! Members first are sorted into different races: Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits. Then, they are allowed to join their "home community" (such as khazad_realm for the Dwarves). There are also communities for discussion, fanart, graphics (icons and banner makers, go join!), fanfiction, and contests.

Right now, the Battle of the First Age is going on between the four races. Individuals rack up points for their race to see who will win the War. Isn't that neat? :-P

Hope to see you there!

Re-readng Unfinished Tales [06 Aug 2006|09:58am]

[ mood | dorky ]

Well I am reading Unfinished Tales at the moment. I am wishing that Tolkien had acutually finished them .I really like the bits and scraps of the story of Galadriel and Celeborn. I think it is really foolish when people complain far to much about the lack of strong female characters in Tolkien. Although they are not mentioned much because the stories in LOTR and the Silmarillion are about war. And they were writtend about an age in which for the most part females of any species were not involved in wars. The exception to this norm was Eowyn and that was against the will and knowledge of her family. Characters like Eowyn are strong characters. I would think that both Arwen and Luthien who chose to give up their immortality for the mortals they loved are indeed very strong. They went against family and friends in order to do so.Arwen is also a strong character because she is the impetous for Aragorn to become the King of Men that he was meant to be.If Elrond had forbidden to marry Arwen until he was King of Gondor and Arnor he would have remained a Ranger. Without his leadership the world of men would have failed and Sauron would have found the Ring and enslaved the Free Peoples of ME. So Arwens strength is that she provides acts as Aragorns light in the dark. I really enjoyed Unfinished Tales. I am in the process of reading the Histories of ME right now. I am trying to find a decent boxed set of the second half of the series. It will probably cost a fortune. arghhh!
